Although the violence of the Intifada has subsided, Jerusalem, a city holy to Muslims, Christians and Jews, is said to be in a state of decline. The Jewish population is falling while the proportion of ultra-orrthodox Jews in west Jerusalem is increasing, a shift in the balance of the population which worries not only Arabs but many secular Jews.
